Welcome to Waikato DHB

Moving to a new location and starting a new job can be very daunting – where do you start in your search for accommodation, schooling for your children, searching for a job for your partner plus finding answers to all those other questions you have when setting up ‘house’.

At ‘sign on’ we give RMOs commencing employment at the Waikato DHB  a copy of the ‘Hamilton City Map +Index” and for those new to New Zealand we give them a copy of the Hamilton City Council publication – ‘Hamilton New Settlers Guide’ which is updated annually; these publications are available on the Hamilton City Council website www.hcc.govt.nz and contain useful and general contact details and information 

“Waikato’s RMO Pocketbook (an orientation guide)”

Starting at a new hospital has its challenges – where to go, who to contact, policies and guidelines, forms to fill out, procedures to follow, to name but a few. ‘Waikato’s RMO Pocketbook (an Orientation guide)’ was developed to help you with all of this.

This booklet has been written by doctors for doctors and is intended to be a ‘dummy’s’ guide to being an RMO at Waikato DHB; hopefully this pocketbook will give you the basic information you need to get you started and survive on the wards on a day-to-day basis; if there is still anything that you are unsure about, either ask one of your colleagues (as many of them have been here a while) or speak to the RMO Unit. This booklet will be handed out to all new RMOs at the commencement of their employment

PGY1 specific

Clinical attachment/Unit orientation summary sheets

Throughout the year you will be rotating into different clinical attachments; while there is often a ‘service specific’ orientation that is organised at each change-over, often the information about codes for lockers, who does what, the daily work routine etc. are not covered. The 'UnitIn previous years we have produced ‘Clinical Attachment Summary Sheets’ – these are being updated to ‘Unit Orientation Summary Sheets'Sheets’; we have not received all the updates back yet, so this ‘Notice’ has a combination of both documents. However, regardless of format, these documents have been designed to give you that information and to help you ‘find your feet’ in your new clinical attachment / ward /specialty area. It may be helpful to download all four ‘Unit Orientation Summary‘Summary Sheets’ corresponding to where you will be working during each year.
