2014 Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal

The 2014 Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal raised money for hospitals with dedicated children’s areas. Now in its eighth year, the appeal has raised just over $833,000 for Waikids in that time. In 2014, Waikato DHB received $110,813.

Waikato’s wishlist for 2014

Tokoroa Hospital

  • Tilt away beds x 2  
    To enable the mother and her baby in the maternity unit to have a support person with them

  • Hand held pulse oximeter with neonatal capability   
    Used for babies to assess for breathing difficulties whilst  mothers  cuddle and breast feed them

  • Dynamap monitor 
    To monitor children and young people’s vital signs including heart rate, breathing rate and blood pressure in the emergency department

  • Baby car seats (<13kg) x 2 
    To enable the Public Health Nurses to transport babies to clinic appointments


Te Kuiti Hospital

  • Philips MP 5 Monitor
    Used for monitoring children and young peoples vital signs including heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure

  • Welch Allyn wall mounted diagnostic set
    Used for assessing children’s ears and eyes

  • Hand held pulse oximeter
    Used for assessing children and young peoples vital signs including heart rate and how much oxygen is in their blood

Taumarunui Hospital

  • Ear Thermometer x 2
  • Welch Allyn wall mounted diagnostic set
    Used for assessing children’s ears and eyes

  • Hand held pulse oximeter  x 2   
    Used for assessing children and young peoples vital signs including heart rate and how much oxygen is in their blood

  • Kay Pictures
    Vision testing product for children  

  • Dynamap monitor x 2
    To assess and monitor children and young people’s essential observations

Waikato Hospital

  • RAD 8 Pulse Oximeters for the Homecare Care x 4
    Used for patients with respiratory/lung disease to measure changes in breathing patterns

  • AD 7 Pulse Oximeters for the Delivery Suite x 5
    Used to monitor babies following delivery where interventions were necessary

  • Cosy Cot – for Newborn ICU/Delivery Suite
    Used to safety transport infants who need continuous resuscitation from the delivery suite to the newborn ICU

  • Multi Sensory Room
    This room will be used predominately for children with intellectual disabilities

  • BERAphone for the newborn hearing programme
    The BERAphone is placed onto the babies head, with application of electrode gel. Within a short period you a result will appear if the baby’s hearing within normal range.

  • GSI TympStar middle-ear analyser for the Audiology Department
    Used to carry out hearing tests on children – we currently have one (3yrs old) purchased from Countdown Appeal – an additional one would allow us to provide visiting clinics to rural/community hospitals
