The Waikato District Health Board Library has a core collection of 10,000 books and over 10,000 journal titles, focusing on resources across all hospital specialities, as well as physiotherapy, rehabilitation, health statistics, general practice and management. There is also a significant historical book collection.
All Waikato District Health Board staff have access to the Library. Professional healthcare practitioners working within the Waikato District Health Board region can become approved borrowers for no charge upon registration [PDF, 40 KB] . Access to a range of electronic resources:
- DynaMed - evidence-based summaries for over 3,200 conditions and drugs
- Lippincott Procedures - clinical procedures available for nurses and midwives
- Nursing Reference CentrePlus - evidence-based information for nurses at the point of care, including patient information
APPS - These resources all have apps available. Apps are a convenient way to access the information. Once the app is set up on your device no further logins are required. The DynaMed, Nursing Reference Center Plus and Lippincott Procedures apps all work off-line.
A ccess to a range of article searching databases:
- MEDLINE Complete - the largest biomedical database
- CINAHL Complete - main database for nurses and allied health professionals
- Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection– mental health, psychiatry, psychology
- Health Business Elite - health care administration and other non-clinical aspects of health care institution management. Full-text includes Harvard Business Review

Lippincott Procedures and Nursing Reference Center via Ko Awatea LEARN
Registered nurses and midwives within the Midland region also have free access to Lippincott Procedures (evidence-based nursing procedures) and Nursing Reference Center (evidence-based point-of-care tool) via the Ko Awatea LEARN site.
Alternatively you could use these resources via the app. Please contact the Library if you are interested to use the apps.
To set up access
- Go to Ko Awatea LEARN
- Create an account (if you haven’t got one)-follow the instructions
- Once your account has been confirmed, sign in
- Search for the course called “Lippincott Procedures and Nursing Reference Center”
- Add the course to “My courses”
If you don't have a Waikato DHB email address, please contact the Library with the following information:
- Name
- Place of Work
- Registration number
We will provide you with a username and password for the Ko Awatea site.
