For many years, a small and dedicated group has been collecting equipment, books, documents, photographs, uniforms and the like in a bid to preserve rare and interesting material about the history of health for the benefit of future generations.
In 2005, the work of this group was formalised under the banner of the Waikato Health Memorabilia Trust, which is a Registered Charitable Trust with the Charities Commission - No. CC 10234.
The trust organises public meetings/lectures and annual memorial lectures on topics of interest.
Purpose of the trust:
- to undertake, publicise and promote the collection, identification, preservation and display of documents, photographs and objects of historical interest related to the provision of health services in the Waikato District Health Board area;
- to maintain and develop the collection and to have it available for display and for research and education purposes for the benefit of those persons primarily in the Waikato District Health Board area (but also elsewhere in New Zealand) who need or wish to research, study or learn about the history of health services in the district;
- any other purposes that will result in the collection, preservation and public display of medical and other health-related memorabilia.
