We have a range of cafes, espresso coffee carts and vending machines to provide meals, snacks, fruits, hot beverages, soft drinks and water. We also have a on-site community pharmacy where you are able to fill your prescription.

Pharmacy on Meade

Pharmacy on Meade, our on-site community pharmacy at Waikato Hospital, is a convenient option for patients, families and visitors to pick up prescribed medicines, to buy over-the-counter medications and health products, and to purchase gifts, baby products and personal care items. Pharmacy staff will provide advice and discuss your medications with you and answer your questions and concerns. Please contact us if you have any questions about obtaining your prescription or have any trouble sourcing a medicine or pharmacy product. 

Pharmacy on Meade provides:

  • Dispensing of prescription medicines and controlled drugs
  • Professional advice and counselling on medicines
  • A range of over the counter medicines and natural health products
  • Giftware, baby, wound care and personal care ranges
  • Products priced very competitively 

Products available include (but not limited to):

  • Cough and cold therapies
  • Over the counter medicines – e.g. antihistamines/ allergy products, pain relief, reflux therapies,
  • Vitamins and natural health products
  • Smoking cessation therapies
  • Toiletries
  • A small supply of PJs, sox, underwear, pantyhose
  • First aid and sport products, sun care
  • Pregnancy, maternity, sexual health and breast feeding products
  • Eye care range – contact lens solutions, small range of sunglasses and reading glasses
  • Haircare
  • Moderately priced gift packs, soaps, lotions, hand creams
  • Low to medium priced make-up range

Obtaining your prescription from Pharmacy on Meade

The prescription service at Pharmacy on Meade is available to patients, visitors and staff and also to the local residential community.

Prescriptions can be brought in to Pharmacy on Meade which is conveniently located on Level 1 of the Meade Clinical Centre. Alternatively, prescriptions can be faxed ahead of time for dispensing. Please refer to ‘location and opening hours’ for contact details and hours of operation.

  • Wide range of hot and cold food and beverages including sandwiches, salads and full meals as well as top-up cards and newspapers

There are several coin-operated vending machines around the hospital that offer snacks and cold drinks.

A dairy in Selwyn Street, which sells sandwiches, pies, coffee/hot chocolate drinks and has some tables outside (smoking is permitted in that area).

Postal services

  • Stamps and cards are sold at Bach Espresso kiosk in the Upper Deck Cafe.
  • Stamped letters can be posted at the postbox outside the Hague Road Carpark Building (Level B5).
  • Patients can send stamped mail through the internal hospital mail service.

Music players, radios, Playstations

You can bring your own but any use must take into account of the needs of other patients for a quiet environment. Headphones must be used. Radios must be battery operated.

Public WiFi

There's free public wifi available throughout the Meade Clinical Centre. When you turn on your wifi on your mobile device select Public_WiFi from the list of options. You will be able to browse the internet or access your emails.

Television reception

Due to the change from analogue to digital television service, the hospital cannot offer television reception in most of its wards at this stage.

A new digital service is available in the Older Persons and Rehabilitation Building.

Clinic waiting rooms have an internal channel playing a rotating list of short video items on health, environment and other topics.
