Disability Support Advisory Committee

The Disability Support Advisory Committee legislative role will be conducted through the Health Strategy Committee .


Terms of Reference

  1. In accordance with the NZ Public Health and Disability Act, the Board shall establish a Disability Support Advisory Committee to function through the Health Strategy Committee, whose members and chair person shall be as determined by the Board from time to time.

  2. None of the Committees of the Board have delegated authority and all have an advisory role to the Board. The Committee’s scope of action outlined below should be read with this important qualification in mind. This advisory role will normally be discharged by way of the Board adopting the Committee’s minutes but other forms of reporting/advising may occur from time to time.

  3. The function of the Disability Support Advisory Committee shall be:
    • a) to examine in depth, issues associated with:
      • o the disability support needs and any factors that the Committee believes may adversely affect the health status of the resident population of the Waikato DHB
      • o priorities for use of the disability support funding provided.
    • b) to promote the inclusion and participation in society for people with disabilities for the resident population of the Waikato DHB

  4. The issues to be examined by the Committee shall be identified:
    • a) at the Committee’s initiative
    • b) at the Executive’s initiative
    • c) at the request of the Board.

  5. The Committee’s advice may not be inconsistent with the New Zealand disability strategy.

  6. The Disability Support Advisory Committee shall hold meetings as frequently as the Board considers necessary. Four meetings are normally held annually.

Disability Support Advisory Committee

The Disability Support Advisory Committee advises the Board on the disability support needs of Waikato people and advocates for those with disabilities.

Aims:

  • advise the Board on the disability support needs of the Waikato DHB’s resident population

  • advocate for people with disabilities

  • advise the Board on the kinds of disability support services that the Waikato DHB has provided or funded, or could provide or fund, to promote the inclusion and participation in society, and to maximise the independence, of the people with disabilities within Waikato DHB’s resident population

  • advise the Board on policies it has adopted, or could adopt.
    The advice must reflect the aims and objectives of the New Zealand Disability Strategy
