DHB elections

Seven members of Waikato DHB board are publicly elected . ( See Waikato DHB district map) .  Four additional people, including the Chair, are appointed by the Health Minister at a later date.

• All local elections are held by postal vote. Voting papers are posted to all enrolled voters.
• Only people who are correctly enrolled will receive their voting papers in the mail
• Those who enrol after 12 August 2016 will need to cast a special vote, and will need to contact their local council for voting papers.

The STV voting system

The DHB election uses the STV (Single Transferable Vote) system where voters rank their preferred candidates in order of preference (1 for the candidate you most prefer, 2 for your next preferred candidate and so on). You can rank as many or as few of the candidates on the voting paper as you wish. For your vote to count, there should be only one candidate with the figure 1 beside their name.
